PE & Sports
At Lyneham Primary School, we believe that every person should have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills to live a full, healthy life; emotionally, mentally and physically. We are so lucky to have additional PE and Sports lessons as part of our Enrichment Curriculum, led by Mr. Thorne - an ex-semi professional footballer who has 11 years of experience as a P.E teacher and sports coach. He is supported by our assistant sports coach, Miss T.
Our PE Enrichment sessions offer opportunities for children to be creative, cooperative and competitive and to face up to diverse challenges both as individuals and in groups. A 'good workout' helps ease anxiety, tension and stress and will result in improved attention in class. The aim of the curriculum is to help children excel in physical activities and inspire them to lead healthy, active lifestyles, and additionally helps our children to develop skills and confidence, maintain physical fitness, learn about personal health and wellness, and demonstrate positive social skills.
Our high-quality PE curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities and we provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.
In PE, pupils learn increasingly intelligent movement and important knowledge that can reduce barriers to participation and inform their own healthy, active lifestyle choices. PE also provides a gateway into the world of sport and physical activity – we have a plethora of extracurricular opportunities outside of school for our children to participate in, such as sports festivals, competitive tournaments and matches, and experience days.
